As Naples’ Premier Professional Organizer, I’m always coming up with fun ways to encourage my clients to declutter and get rid of the things they no longer need, use or want. And in case you were wondering? I walk the talk!
When I clear out my own closet, I don’t just toss the items I no longer need, use or want—I sell or consign them. If I’m lucky enough to sell something, I take the money I earn and put it in an old-fashioned piggy bank. The fun part is, at the end of the year, I total up what’s in the bank and use that money to buy new clothes or something else that I want. This method is a great way to recycle your wardrobe, declutter and save money, all without feeling guilty about letting go of things.
When my parents first got married and were living on a tight budget, they used the same system for saving for a rainy day. In the 1960s, they actually saved enough for two round-trip tickets to Europe! It’s not just about getting organized—it’s about living a more intentional, simplified life filled with experiences, not more stuff.
